The Texas Prison Museum offers an intriguing glimpse into the lives of the state's least-loved citizens. The museum features numerous exhibits detailing the history of the Texas prison system, both from the point of view of the inmates as well as the men and women who worked within the prison walls.
Unlike most prison museums, the Texas Prison Museum is not located in an old prison, which in a way is a shame, however it is new, clean and well funded. It is plentiful with old Texas prison memerobilia from the Texas Prison Rodea, Outlaw history, prisoner creativity = shanks, zip guns, and more. Old "Sparky", the electric chair is also there from before the state went to lethal injection to carry out the death penalty.
If you are in the Houston, Texas area, it's well worth the trip. It is right off I-45 across from the Holiday prison unit. Check them out!
