On February 4th, 2000, a man entered a bar in San Antonio's Eastside, a pistol in his hand and demanding the patron’s money. The patron complied and the man then demanded money from the bartender. After taking money from the bartender the man began to leave and in the process of backing out the door was attacked by the patron. A struggle for the gun ensued and three shots were fired. After the shots the man ran out of the bar. |

Zolo Agona Azania is one of the many persons of African descent who await execution as a victim of a racially biased criminal justice system. Politically active at the time of his arrest, Zolo has been committed to the struggle for social justice for all peoples since before his imprisonment on death row. For more than 24 years, since 1981, Zolo Agona Azania has been imprisoned on Indiana's death row and has been fighting for his life. Twice he has been sentenced to die and twice the death sentence has been reversed on appeal due to unconstitutional suppression of favorable evidence by the prosecution, ineffective assistance of counsel, and systematic exclusion of Blacks from the jury pool. Zolo did not receive a fair trial and has always maintained his total innocence of any involvement in the crime. |

Tony Ford was the driver for two brothers, Van and Victor Belton, who went to a house in El Paso to collect a drug debt in December, 1991. After knocking on the door, the brothers forced their way in. Finding that the man they were looking for was not there, they demanded money from the woman who owned the house, her two young adult daughters, and her seventeen-year-old son. They then shot each of the family members, killing the son, and seriously wounding (and permanently disabling) the mother, though not seriously injuring either daughter. |
